<\/a>The 83rd Academy Awards aired last night and amid all the glitz and glamour, there has been some brewing controversy surrounding the “whiteness\u201d of this year\u2019s ceremony.\u00a0 Upon the announcement of this year\u2019s nominees, many noted that there was an obvious lack of films featuring people of colour.\u00a0 Manohla Dargis and A.O. Scott recently featured and article about this year\u2019s award show in the New York Times titled \u201cHollywood\u2019s Whiteout.\u201d\u00a0 In addition to noting the lack of representation of films featuring people of colour, it also chronicled what seems to be a history of exclusion of people of colour in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

Actor Idris Elba, who has had success in both TV and film, recently did an interview for the Len\u2019s Project\u2019s \u201cArtist Spotlight\u201d series and expressed his feelings about this year\u2019s Academy Awards \u201cwhiteout.\u201d\u00a0 In the interview he expressed that \u201cHalle Berry and I were the only two black actors nominated for this year\u2019s Golden Globes (Idris for Luther and Halle for Frankie & Alice). The Oscars aren\u2019t designed for us\u2026let\u2019s focus on making more films.\u201d<\/p>\n
