Five contestants left. Let us see who will be crowned Miss Universe 2011 after the break: Brazil, Ukraine, China, Angola and Philippines.
Within that few minutes of commercial, hearts pounded viciously, tangled thoughts played in minds of knowing the high possibility of a bias call versus the hope and prayers for a genuine call. “Angola, God please bring it to Africa” I prayed. I know I was not alone, others were praying in their homes as well. I will not be shocked if there were a couple of prayer meetings in various African countries.
Let me tell you something unique about African’s living in Africa. There is a moment in time when we turn the African continent into a small country to the point that if someone screamed in South Africa, best believe it, it can be heard in Morocco. This was one of the moments. If Angola wins, Africa wins and if they loose, we all loose.
Fourth runner-up:Miss China, Luo Zilin. Third runner-up: Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup. Second runner-up: Miss Brazil, Priscila Machado
Two left. Who will be crowned miss Universe 2011? Miss Ukraine, Olesia Stefanko or Miss Angola, Leila Lopes
Oh my goodness, this can’t be, I am about to piss on myself and the pepsi fizzling isn’t helping either. Damn!! I just spilled the drink on a book I was reading on Amílcar Lopes da Costa Cabral (12 September 1924 – 20 January 1973)
And the 2011 Miss universe goes to….
Pause: September 12th? September 12th !!! Today is September 12. No way.
After seeing this rap video dedicated to a legend and political leader Amílcar Lopes da Costa Cabral (A Cape Verdean born in Guinea Bissau, who led Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde Islands into war against their colonial masters Portugal, ensuring independence.), I was inspired to go buy his book. He was the driving force behind the liberation of the Portuguese colonies in Africa, promoting independence in Portuguese colonies such as Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and Angola.
Okay so why bring Amílcar Cabral’s name up in such an unrelated topic, you may ask? Give me a moment to explain.
See in Africa we believe in the spirits of Ancestors, angels that guard Africa and its people. So now let me ask you :
1.Would you say it is a coincidence that Miss Angola’s full name is Leila Luliana da Costa Vieira Lopes and Born in Angola by Cape Verdean parents, has a similarity to the ancestor Amílcar Lopes da Costa Cabral of Cape Verdean parents born in Guinea-Bissau who for fought to liberate Portuguese colonies including Angola in Africa?
2. Would you say I am crazy to count the letters in their common name “LOPES DA COSTA” and come up with the number 12?
3. Is it Ironic that Amílcar Lopes da Costa Cabral was born on September/12/1924 and on September /12 /2011 , Leila Luliana da Costa Vieira Lopes, the first Angolan was crowned miss Universe?
I must be crazy to think an African ancestor, an Angel was there to endorse its African Daughter as Miss universe. God has his own ways of doing things. His protection and blessings on the African soil and its people shall forever be a testimony.
And now the 2011 Miss universe goes to ….
