I was told that there are three things that makes a mother proud for her son ; Good education, great job and a lovely wife. It almost doesn’t matter where you are and what you are in life , these three things MUST happen to make the 9months in her belly worth it. Mmh!! Maybe I am exaggerating, let’s say at least two has to happen. lol
Usaine Bolt known as the fastest man in the world, breaking records upon records, getting fame on top of fame, endorsements left and right to make him well off to take care of his family, you would think that would be enough to close a book for life. Trust me, I would not even pick up a 140 character twitter feed to read. However , I have a change of thought after hearing a recent news that sat me down and got me thinking.
Usaine Bolt, world record breaking Jamaican sprinter graduates with honorary degree of Doctor of Law by the University of the West Indies, Mona this past friday November 4th.
Huh, what?, wow, cool, awesome, congratulations. All these words running simultaneously in my head with my mothers voice “when are you going to get your masters?” , ” You can have all the money in this world but knowledge has more value and can take you further”, ” You want to play football but what happens if you break your leg and cant play anymore?” . Augh!! Enough, it is clear now, I must go back to school. I must further my education, not for her and not for you,not because the economy is bad, but for me. B.B King once said ” The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.”
Just as the World’s fastest runner achieved his education for himself and made a mother proudly call her son, Dr. The Honourable Ambassador Usain Bolt.
Congratulations.
“Aim for success, not perfection. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose the ability to learn new things and move forward with your life. Remember that fear always lurks behind perfectionism.” David M. Burns
