The International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) will celebrate its 30th year on May 28th, 2011 at the National Academy of the Performing Arts in Port of Spain, Trinidad.  Founded by entrepreneur, publisher and TV personality Ephraim M. Martin, the IRAWMA is considered to be the only awards show to recognize the contributions of Caribbean and world music for over 30 years.  This year’s awards show will be followed by a grand concert, celebrating the nominees and winners on May 29th, 2011 at the Queens Park Savanna titled ‘Reggae Meets Soca and Chutney.”

While performances for the event are yet to be announced, this year’s nominees represent some of the hottest artists in all genres of music in the Caribbean, Latin America and African Diaspora.  Some other notable nominees at this year’s event include, Trinidad’s 2011 Soca Monarch and Road Monarch champion Machel Montano, Dancehall star Vybz Kartel, Tarrus Riley, Jah Cure, Gramps Morgan, Queen Afrika, Reggae sensation Sly and Robbie, JW and Blaze, Shakira, Daddy Yankee and many more.

Past nominees, winners and award recipients have included Sean Paul, Jamie Foxx, Mamedou Diabte, Wyclef Jean, India Irie, Enrique Iglesias, Alison Hinds, Awilo Longamba and Bennie Man, just to name a few.  While previous IRAWMAs have been held in some of the world’s most famous cities, including New York, Miami, Atlanta and Montego Bay, this year’s award is expected to reach a wider international audience, with its broadcast on major TV networks MTV and BET.
