All we want to do is break the chains off us, all we want to do is ” Khululeka”,
When I watched this heartfelt J. Cole Live performance, tears quickly dribbled down my eyes with Sam Cooke’s “Change is gonna come” playing at the back of my mind. –A song that always puts me in tears, taking me back to deep thoughts about the pain and struggle of our forefathers; the challenges I face as a black man in this modern day and age; my hopes for the future of my kids and the next generation– When will change come? All I want is to “Khululeka” ; Have equal rights as any other race; a guarantee for the future of my children, and not not pushed back into shackles – A history I will hate to repeat that, rather let me die. After all, there is freedom after death from the hands of the oppressor. All I want to do is break the chains off me, all I want to see is our youth to ‘be free’. It’s been too long, long time coming, now I don’t even know if that change is gonna come. No I don’t. Even after having the first Black President, I still don’t see that change.
And I’m in denial
And it don’t take no x-ray to see right through my smile
I know, I’d be on the go
And it ain’t no drink out there that can numb my soul
No, no
All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is break the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is break the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free
Can you tell me why every time I step outside
I see my niggas die,
Ooh, I’m letting you know
That it ain’t no gun they make that can kill my soul
Oh, no
All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is break the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free
Are we all alone fighting on our own
Please give me a chance
I don’t wanna dance
Something’s got me down
I will stand my ground,
Don’t just stand around
Don’t just stand around
All we want to do is take these chains off
All we want to do is break the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is take these chains off
All we want to do is break the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free
